RC Gridmaster combines a unique balance of maternal excellence, individual performance and breed advancing phenotype. His dam, Miss RC 600U 501F, (65 PPA, 107 wwr / 6 calves), is a matriarch of the River Creek program with progeny in many top herds in the nation. His sire, CCR Griffey, is a time-proven, senior herd sire at River Creek out of the immortal BOZ Redcoat. Gridmaster has impressive ratios of BW 102, WW 110, YW 107, ADG 120, REA 113, and a incredible IMF ratio 185 (4.57 actual scan). His EPDs rank him in the Top 2% CE, 10% WW, API and T1. He is Genmark tested 11 star including 8 for feed efficiency, heterozygous black and DNA tested homozygous polled. Appearance wise, he is a deep, soggy, wide based bull with plenty of thickness and sound structure. About Feed Efficiency

The GeneStar feed efficiency test, developed by Bovigen, is the only DNA test that can identify an animal’s genetic ability to efficiently convert feed. The test consists of four markers that together identify as much as a 15 percent difference in daily feed consumption with no affect on other measures such as average daily gain (ADG), carcass weight or quality and yield grade. RC Gridmaster has tested 8 stars (homozygous) for the four feed efficiency markers.

The Markers were identified through discovery and validation work on thousands of cattle focusing on the trait of net-feed intake, sometimes called resididual feed intake or net feed efficiency, Bovigen says. This trait was identified by nutritionists to measure differences between how much an animal should eat and how much it actually eats over a given period of time and accounting for the calf’s weight, how much it grows and its composition of bone, muscle and fat.

For example, an animal with a Feed Efficiency GPD of -3.0 will eat 3 lbs less feed/day than an animal with a Feed Efficiency GPD of zero. Over a 150-day feeding period and with a ration cost of $165/ton, the animal with a -3.0 GPD will cost #37 less to feed without sacrificing growth performance or carcass quality.

An independent study showed feed efficiency has six times as much effect on feed yard profitability as ADG while a 20 percent improvement in efficiency would equal a $65 improvement in profitability, the company adds.

Semen can be purchased from one of the owners for $20 per unit.
